WRC: M-Sport Ford announced three-car line-up for the 2020 season
M-Sport Ford is the last team to announce a line-up for the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship season, taking Esapekka Lappi as the team leader, retaining Teemu Suninen as the second drivers and giving a part-time schedule to Gus Greensmith.
It would be the youngest line-up among three teams in the WRC, with 28-year-old Lappi, 25-year-old Suninen and 23-year-old Greensmith in three Ford Fiestas. The Finns will participate in all rounds, Greensmith will visit nine WRC rallies in 2020 (Monte-Carlo, Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Finland, Turkey, Germany and GB).
Suninen and Greensmith were driving for M-Sport in 2019, Lappi drove a Ford last time in 2012 when he was Finnish rally champion in a Fiesta S2000, sharing a car with his current navigator Janne Ferm.
“We’re going back to our roots in more ways than one this year – fielding a young team and welcoming two sets of Finns back to the family. We enjoyed some fantastic results with Marcus, Mikko and Jari-Matti, and now I’m looking forward to seeing how the next generation of Flying Finns develop. Our core philosophy has always been the promotion and progression of young talent, and in Esapekka, Teemu and Gus we have three talented youngsters who are all capable of delivering some strong results,” M-Sport’s managing director Malcolm Wilson said.
