World RX - Barcelona: Petter Solberg back in the winning streak
Reigning World rallycross champion Petter Solberg is back in the winning streak. He won Barcelona RX, tenth round of 2015 World RX season, which took place at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. It’s Solberg’s third victory this year (after Hockenheim and Lydden Hill) and he extends his championship lead.
Behind Solberg’s Citroen DS3 Supercar two main championship rivals finished second and third respectively – Johan Kristoffersson (Volkswagen Team Sweden) was second and Timmy Hansen (Team Peugeot-Hansen) was third. In the final run at the amazing rallycross track created inside of Spanish GP circuit Davy Jeanney (Team Peugeot-Hansen) finished fourth ahead of American Tanner Foust in Marklund Motorsport’s VW Polo. Sixth finalist was Robin Larsson with Audi A1, who didn’t reach the finish line.
Six other drivers who competed in the semifinals but didn’t get to Final were Andreas Bakkerud and Reinis Nitiss (both Olsbergs MSE), Mattias Ekstrom (EKS RX), Toomas Heikkinen (Marklund Motorsport), Timur Timerzyanov (Namus OMSE) and Tord Linnerud (Volswagen Sweden). Austrian rally star Manfred Stohl was first under the line after four qualifying heats. 22 drivers contested in World RX competition. DTM champion and World RX rookie Timo Scheider finished 16th.
After ten events (of 13) Petter Solberg has 243 championship points, 35 more than second placed Timmy Hansen. Johan Kristoffersson is third with 182 points, 16 more than four placed Davy Jeanney. Andreas Bakkerud rounded the Top 5 with 163 points.
The winner of Euro RX competition is Ole-Christian Veiby in VW Polo of Volkswagen Team Sweden. Current championship leader Tommy Rustad in Marklund Motorsport’s VW Polo crossed the finish line first but he was penalized after the race and demoted to sixth place. Winner of S1600 class of Euro RX is Frenchman Andrea Dubourg in Renault Clio, ahead of Krisztian Szabo in Škoda Fabia and Janis Baumanis in Renault Twingo. Norwegian Thomas Bryntesson is the winner of RX Lites Cup, ahead Cyril Raymond and Kevin Hansen.
