Signs That You Need To Upgrade Your Jeep For Summer Off-Roading
If you are like most customers, you purchased your Jeep for its incredible off-roading capabilities. You probably looked forward to summer fun throughout the winter months and considered how you could prepare your rig for these adventures. You may have even looked up information on how to lift a truck. Now that the weather has warmed, these are some signs that you should consider some offroad upgrades.
Worn Out Tires
Before you go off-roading, you should check your tires. Not only should you check your pressure, but you should check your tread. Your tread gives you the ability to gain proper traction, which is especially important if you plan to drive over large boulders or other obstacles. If your traction is insufficient, you could place yourself in danger.
Because off road tires are larger and have larger surface spaces, they also pick up debris. Search for screws, metal shards, large rocks, etc. before going out because they can puncture your tires and cause them to leak. Add a tire seal kit to your emergency supplies.
Lack of Ground Clearance
Have you found yourself wishing that you could drive over larger obstacles rather than trying to find a way around them? The last thing you want is to damage your undercarriage, but Jeep manufactured these vehicles to traverse rough terrain. To improve your ground clearance, consider a lift kit.
A lift kit will raise your frame height and improve your suspension. Although they cost more than body lifts, which don’t offer additional ground clearance, your angles of approach and departure improve and you can navigate much larger objects. You will also need larger tire and wheel packages for additional clearance.
Drivetrain Vibrations
Your drivetrain includes your axles, wheels, transmission and driveshaft. These parts work together to give your wheels the power and speed they need. If you recently added a lift kit to improve your ground clearance, you may need to update your driveshaft as well. A factor driveshaft may become overtaxed by larger tires and your lift kit. Therefore, consider an upgrade during your lift kit installation or if you feel vibrations after you have it installed.
You Want To Feel the Sun
One of the best features of a Jeep is your ability to drive with the top off. Your Jeep’s hardtop provides solid protection. It also helps keep the outside and driving noise down. However, during the summer, you may want to drive with the top down and enjoy the sun and breeze. Unfortunately, a hard top is challenging to remove and does not store easily, especially if you just want to go without it for a few hours.
Therefore, consider purchasing a soft top that is easily removable. These tops also fold up and store easily. However, don’t forget to properly care for your soft top, including protecting it from the environment and UV rays.
Not Enough Light at Night
If your Jeep is from before 2017, you may find it difficult to see at night. If you go off-roading at night, it is especially dangerous to not have enough light. Therefore, consider upgrading your headlights to LEDs. Several options are available, including honeycomb, half- or full-halo lights.
Improve your Jeep’s style and functionality with aftermarket parts that prepare it for your summer off-roading adventures.
