Ensuring Your Safety When Driving Should Be Your Top Priority
When you are driving, the safety of you and your passengers in the car should always be your top priority. Making sure that everyone is safe and not in danger is your job as the driver, and you need to take it seriously. Some drivers don’t think about this when they are texting on their phone or doing something else that can distract them from the road, but they should. The last thing that you want is to end up in an accident. If you would like to know more about how you can ensure your safety when driving, keep reading down below.
No Lights On Inside
The first thing that you are going to need to do is make sure that there are no lights on in the car if it is dark outside. The reason for this is that it can cause a glare on the windscreen, distracting you by making it so that you can’t see. This includes the lights that are included inside the car, any phone torches, or really anything that can distract you as the driver. If the person in the passenger seat is looking through their phone, but you are finding the light distracting or anything like this, kindly ask them to turn it off as you need to concentrate.
You also need to make sure that your phone isn’t lighting up every couple of seconds. If turning your phone over so you can’t see it is the only option here, then this is what you are going to have to do.
The Wheels Are Safe
Another thing that you’re going to have to think about are the wheels. You need to be checking your wheels before every journey, otherwise you are not going to know for sure whether you are safe or not. Of course, there is always the risk of running over something in the road, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t check the wheels before you leave anyway. If you have a flat tyre, you need to make sure that you get this sorted before you get back in the car as it can be dangerous otherwise.
When it comes to your wheels, you want to make sure that everything is good. Where you can, 4×4 wheels are probably the best to choose as they give you full control of the car. Instead of only being powered by two of the wheels, 4×4’s are powered by all 4, allowing you easier handling and control of the vehicle.
Everyone Is Strapped In
When people get in your car, do not go anywhere unless you know that you are strapped in and so is anyone else in the car with you. If you were to get in an accident, you need to ensure that you are as safe as possible, ideally, you won’t get into an accident in the first place, but they happen and we all need to be aware of how life saving a seatbelt can be. You should never drive anywhere without one, even if it is just a short distance. It might not seem like a big deal at a time, but it would be if something went wrong.
Check all the seatbelts regularly to ensure that they are safe to use. If you think that they aren’t, or that there is a problem with them, get your vehicle checked out.
Don’t Drive Feeling Unwell
If you are feeling unwell, make sure that you aren’t driving. This is the same for all driving whether it is just for fun, whether you do it for a career or whatever else, you need to make sure that you are not getting behind the wheel if you are not 100%. The reason for this is that it can be super easy to lose control of a car, and if you are not feeling well then it is going to be even easier. We don’t want to scare you into never driving again, but just enough that if you don’t feel completely up to driving, you won’t.
This includes feeling sick, having a headache, having an earache, stomach cramps and literally anything else. All it takes is one little second, one little distraction and things could get pretty ugly. Instead of letting this happen, just don’t drive when you aren’t feeling good.
Keep Your Eyes Peeled
The final thing that you are going to need to do to ensure your safety is keep your eyes peeled. One of the reasons that you need to be completely well to drive is because you need to keep your eyes on the road, and sharp. If you miss something, that could be a game changer. You need to have your eyes everywhere they need to be, not missing anything that is happening on the road.
While it’s true that you should be completely safe with the other cars, sometimes that isn’t the case. If someone wasn’t paying attention, then issues could arise. If you keep your eyes peeled, you will know when someone is doing something they shouldn’t be, or if they are going to do something they shouldn’t in the near future. You should be able to tell by the way they drive and their positioning, so make sure that you’re keeping an eye on this. As long as you keep your eyes on the other drivers as well as the road, failing something being wrong with the car, nothing should go wrong for you.
