Renault Sport’s F1 sporting director Cyril Abiteboul said that the manufacturer’s future in Formula 1 will be known before the end of the year.

Engine supplier of Red Bull and Toro Rosso teams weighing up its options and currently three possibilities are on the table. Renault officials still have enough time to look after all options and in this moment is completely unclear what will be decided.

First option for the French giant is to quit the Formula 1 unhappy with its treatment, especially after taking four consecutive titles with Red Bull. Second option is to take ownership stake in an outfit with Lotus, Toro Rosso and Manor all mentioned as possible buyers. Third option, which is probably least possible, is to keep things almost unchanged and that means to stay in Formula 1 as an engine supplier.

Abiteboul insists that current goal is to make engine more competitive and says decision about future will be made before the end of 2015.

“The best thing we can do for our situation right now is to assume we will continue as we are with us as an engine supplier and them (Red Bull) as a customer of Renault. That will give us the best chance of quick success for the joint organisation, but in parallel we also work on the future. We need to balance the extra benefit of being a team. Our focus is to produce engines, but there is a business case for being a team,” said Renault’s sporting director.
