Porsche 911 GT3 R is prepared to conquer the tracks all over the world

Porsche is ready for the next season after the new 911 GT3 R model was unveiled at Nurburgring. Based on the Porsche 991 model, this GT3 will be eligible to compete from 2016 and it is widely expected to be more successful than its predecessor, the 997-based model.

Operating costs are reduced with Porsche GT3 911

The new Porsche 911 GT3 R is powered by a 4-litre V6 boxer engine which is largely identical to the high-performance series unit of the street-legal 911 GT3 RS. It has 493 horsepower and projected maximum speed is 320 km/h. The head of Porsche Motorsport Dr. Frank Steffen Walliser explained that changes will help reduce operating costs by up to 50 percent over the 997-based model.

The power from the rear-mounted engine is transmitted to the wide rear wheels via a sequential six-speed Porsche constant-mesh gearbox. Just as on the Porsche GT road models of the 911, the driver changes gears using a paddle control on the steering wheel.

Increased downforce

In terms of aerodynamics, the 911 GT3 R follows the example of the road vehicle. The downforce is increased through the wheel arch ventilation on the front axle while the two-metre-wide and 40cm-high rear spoiler ensures balance. The GT3 R follows the concept of a centrally placed radiator from its 911 RS ’big brother’.

Safety is always important

Another development priority on this model of Porsche has been safety. The capacity of the new fuel tank has been increased by a further 12 litres to a total of 120 and at the same time is reinforced to have a fuel cut-off safety valve. The doors and the side windows at Porsche 911 GT3 R are removable while the roof hatch has been slightly enlarged. The new driver´s seat provides even better protection in case of impact. The brake system has also undergone modifications to conform to the GT3-legal ABS system while the suspension on the car is all new.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 R can be ordered at a price of 429.000 euros plus taxes, and deliveries to racing teams will commence in December 2015. Porsche 911 GT3 R will compete in the various racing series, like IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and in the German ADAC GT Masters.
