Just when we thought that the 2015 Blancpain Sprint Series will be decided in Misano, there was unsuspected outcome of the race when Rinaldi Ferrari scored the win and season leader Laurence Vanthoor crashed on qualifying race. The crash was very serious and it happened at high speed when Vanthoor tried to pass Bentley in a battle for 12th place. Laurens was running wide and was faster than Bentley but when he tried to get in front, he lost control and spun, taking the Bentley with him and hitting the fence very hard. The crash is under investigation but is still unclear weather Vanthoor lost control because his two wheels were on wet grass or there was contact with the Bentley before both cars went off track. Here is the video of it:

Both drivers are ok but Vanthoor climbed out of the crashed Audi with injured left leg. The injury is not serious but after going back to Belgium, it was obvious that Vanthoor will not be ready for next and final race of the season which is in just few days on 9th of the October in Zandvoort. Team boss Vincent Vosse said that the most important thing to “think of Laurens’ health and then to find a way to have another car, which should not be a problem”. He added that the plan B is hiring another driver for Zandvoort race. However, Vanthoor and Frijns duo was championship favorite until the Misano race last weekend. Their points advantage is now only 8 points in front of the Bentley team and if Vanthoor couldn’t race on Sunday, Bentley boys could have an easy path to the 2015 Blancpain Sprint Series title. There are still no information about the replacement driver but we will keep you informed and will cover the final event of this year’s Blancpain Sprint season.
