News - 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans LMP1 strategies
The 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans is one of this year’s top motorsport events not just because its long tradition and importance in automotive world but because this year will be one of best in recent history. Audi’s dominance is going to be challenged more than ever and Porsche’s sublime record of 16 Le Mans certanly will not be overpassed. But if Audi claims the 14th win, Porsche will be very nervous about its reputation. Since there are only two months until the 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans, all the teams are in full preparation mode. It will be interesting to see what are the strategies of the LMP1 class. Of course, the exact plans are going to be kept secret but here is the preliminary info as we know it:

Audi
The secret of Audi’s success is the quality of its cars, the drivers and the perfect organisation and strategy. The R18 E-Tron Quattro isn’t always the fastest car on the grid, but is most reliable and has best fuel economy from its diesel hybrid combo. It’s safe to say that Audi team will try to do just one thing in 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans and that’s to be constant troughout the race, try to overtake its competitors in the pits and keep itself from crashing. If everything works out as planned, winning is just a formality.

Porsche
The Porsche with its 919 Hybrid three-car team is our favorite in 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. With the last two years as a ‘test period’ for its Le Mans effort, Porsche looks ready to reclaim its place in Le Mans history. The 919 Hybrid proved itself to be very fast if not the fastest car on the grid and Porsche team is going to use the same strategy as Audi, but with one difference. The 919 Hybrid should overtake its competitors on the track, using the speed and drivers knowledge not in the pits using fuel economy like Audis.

Toyota
The Toyota TS040 Hybrid is not a race car to be taken lightly. The combination of technology, power and Toyota’s efforts makes this a strong contendor for top spots. With its recent podium finishes in the World Endurance Championship, Toyota proved that it is fast but that alone is not enough to win the 24 Hours Le Mans. So Toyota’s strategy is in keeping with Audi’s and Porsche’s. It is looking for the gap and using its competitors’ mistakes, technical failures and potential crashes as a chance to overtake or win.

Nissan
The extremely interesting and inovative Nissan GT-R LM NISMO is surely the star of 2015 24 Hours of Le Mans. However, Nissan knows that this fresh concept of race car has its problems so the Nissan team skipped the first rounds of World Endurance Championship just to be sure that GT-R LM NISMO is ready for big event in two months. The strategy is simple, put great drivers in the race cars, suprise everybody with speed and driving dynamics, try not to brake anything or crash and hope for the best.
