When people need to buy a new car, they have two options: buying a used one or buying a new one. There are advantages and disadvantages to both of these. Whether you should buy a used (or new car) or not depends on your personal situation, how much money you have to spend, and how often you are going to be using the car.

It should be noted that you can get finance, so even if a new car is out of budget, you will still be able to get it and just pay toward it monthly. With that said, interest rates are up at the moment, so now’s not the best time to take out a loan on a car.

Used Cars – More Affordable

When you buy a car used, you are able to save money. Used cars are much cheaper to buy than new ones. And, as mentioned in this post’s introduction, you can take finance out on a used car, which further reduces the amount that you have to pay (all at once, at least). According to experienced Albany used cars dealers DePaula Mazda, finance inquiries can be made online, over the phone, or in-store. Make sure to research interest rates before considering finance.

New Cars – Making Customisations

One of the main advantages of buying a new car is that you are able to have it customized and built to your specifications. Aftermarket customizations can be very expensive. Having the dealership you are ordering your car from making customizations to it is much cheaper, since all they have to do is to tell the factory building your car to make changes to it for you. Because buying a new car is expensive, make sure you are confident in your customization choices, otherwise, you could waste your money.

Used Cars – Better Deals

When you buy used, you get access to much better deals. In other words, you get more for your money. With that said, it is not uncommon for used car dealers to take customers for rides. You need to find an approved dealer, as in one who is registered with a specific manufacturer (like DePaula Mazda, who is an official Mazda dealer). You should never work with independent dealers because there is no guarantee that they will reimburse you if they end up selling you a car that’s no good. An approved dealer would have to reimburse you.

New Cars – Longer Warranties

While used car dealers do offer warranties, you often get much longer warranties with new cars. Typically, used car warranties last no more than a year. New car warranties can be for up to five years. If the car you are buying used was made in the last few years, then it may still be under its original warranty. Always make sure that you ask about your car’s warranty before you buy it, so you know how long you are covered.

If you want to save money, then used cars are best. If you want more control over your car and money isn’t an object, then new cars are a better choice. Considering everything that’s going on economically at the moment, used cars seem like the most sensible option.
