Motorland Aragon - An extraordinary place for racing, fun and education
The Motorland Aragón, opened in 2009, is probably the most modern race venue in Spain that also offers many other non-racing activities.
Following the tradition of street racing
The circuit is located near the town of Alcaniz in Aragón community, northeast Spain. The official name of the circuit is Ciudad del Motor de Aragón. The area has a relatively long history of racing. From 1965 to 2003 thrilling Alcaniz had a thrilling street circuit that was abandoned due to safety reasons.
Local authorities wanted to keep racing alive in the are, so they decided to construct a new venue few kilometers out of the town. The new facility will exceed all expectations and become one of the most modern not only in Spain. The ground was broken late in 2005, in the following year finalized plans were revealed, and in summer of 2009 the works on Motorland Aragon were finished.
Motorland Aragon has three main areas
The facility has been designed to incorporate three main zones. The sports area is the main zone of the facility. A technology park, with educational and research institutes connected to the motor industry is the second area of Motorland Aragon while leisure and culture park are the third area of Motorland Aragon.
Racing circuit with multiple configurations is designed by Hermann Tilke who was helped by Ferrari test driver Pedro de la Rosa who was sporting and technical consultant. The total length of the main FIA Circuit is 5.345 km and has 18 turns. Longest straight is 1.726 km, the width of the track is 12-15 m while the difference between the highest and lowest point is 50 m. The FIM Circuit is slightly shorter – 5.078 km – and has 16 turns. There is a possibility to divide circuit into two independent tracks.
Well equipped facilities
The Motorland Aragon has a big main paddock and smaller secondary paddock. There is a total of 36 garages – 24 of 144 m2 and 12 of 96 m2. Media center can accommodate 270 in the main press room and 30 in the secondary room. The circuit is homologated to FIA Formula 1 testing and also has FIM Top international homologation.
The main events at Motorland Aragón are FIM Moto GP, Superbike World Championship, and World Series by Renault. The circuit also hosts various national motorsport championships, as well as other sports happenings. It is also available for track days and corporate activities.
Getting to Motorland Aragon and accommodation
The nearest international airport is located in the city of Zaragoza, around 120 km from Motorland Aragon that can be found can alongside the N-232 highway. In Alcaniz and its vicinity, the visitors can find many types of accommodation, from camping site to various hotels and apartments.
