Mercedes-AMG revealed 2016 DTM fighter
Mercedes-AMG revealed 2016 C63 Coupe DTM car, which will be used next season in DTM championship. The car is based on recently introduced road-going C 63 Coupe.
The DTM-spec racecar started out as a standard C63 Coupe but it’s now a mean DTM machine with an extended wide body featuring a prominent front splitter, beefier fenders and a large rear wing boosting downforce. It also comes with a dual vented hood, front and rear diffusers, aero-optimized side panels and rides on race-spec 18-inch aluminum wheels with 300 / 680 R18 front &320 / 710 R18 rear tires.
The C63 Coupe in DTM specification benefits from a carbon fiber monocoque with a steel safety roll cage while carbon fiber was used for the hood, doors, side panels, wings as well as for the driveshaft, brakes and the three-plate clutch operated by foot pedal. Thanks to this lightweight construction, the racecar has a minimum weight of 1120 kg and is powered by V8 4.0-liter engine delivering 490 PS (360 kW) at 7500 rpm. Peak torque of 500 Nm is channeled to the rear axle through a six-speed transverse-mounted gearbox.
The first tests with the C63 Coupe DTM will take place starting this winter ahead of the model’s racing debut set for the 2016 season.
