Lopez: It was something special
World Touring Car Championship overall standings leader Jose Maria Lopez said he has special feeling after victory at Nurburgring.

Citroen driver won the first ever WTCC race at Nordschleife and became third Argentinian which won the race the legendary circuit. He won the race 40 after Carlos Reutemann and 58 years after Juan Manuel Fangio victories in Formula 1 German Grand Prix.

“Until last year it had been a long time before an Argentine driver won a world championship. Even though their success was in Formula 1 it feels very nice. To hear your national anthem on the podium is always something special and at the Nordschleife it’s always something more. If there was a race any of would want to win, it was this one. I was very happy to do that and I feel very good for that,” said Lopez.

After victory in the first race and capture of second place in race two, Lopez heading WTCC standings with an advantage of 50 points.

The WTCC season continues in June with Race of Russia in Moscow.
