Local hero wins WTCC Race 2 at Hungaroring
Norbert Michelisz in Honda kept pole position and won second WTCC race at Hungaroring. This victory also gives Hungarian driver the Yokohama Trophy overall lead.
Local hero had a very consistent drive and passed throught the finish line with advantage of more than seven seconds. There was also excellent performance by ROAL Motorsport’s duo of Tom Coronel and Tom Chilton as they finished second and third respectively.
For the first time in this season, none of the Citroens managed to finish on the podium as the best placed French manufacturer’s driver in the race 2 was Sebastien Loeb on fifth place.
After first lap, two drivers were out after crash – Mehdi Bennani, who has proved his stature of too aggresive driver, and Rob Huff who was colateral damage in this situation. It was really bad weekend for Lada Sport team in Hungary…
Citroen drivers were not too aggressive in the Race 2 except Loeb who continuously made a pressure on Tiago Monteiro in the battle for fourth, but without success. “Pechito” Lopez obviously just wanted to score some more points after victory in the first race, so he had to settle at sixth which allowed him to extend his lead in overall standings of the Championship.
Yvann Muller looked like he was quite uninterested this time, so he finished seventh in front of Hugo Valente. Ma Qing Hua was ninth and Gregoire Demoustier of Craft Bamboo Racing team in Chevrolet was the last who finished in the points zone in the sixth round of WTCC 2015 season.
Next round of the WTCC is scheduled for 16th of May at Nurburgring Nordschleife.
