Lada Sport with two cars in Argentina
Start of the WTCC season will not be as it was planned for the Lada Team. Russian team is starting season with just two cars with 2012 champion Rob Huff and two time British Touring Car champion James Thompson. Third team’s driver, Mikhail Kozlovskiy will miss races in Argentina and make his debut in April, at second weekend in Morocco.
“The time was limited and we were unable to finish the third car, but at the second race of the season in Marrakech, it will be ready. We are building four cars, three for racing and one for testing. I think that in a week or two it will be completed. We are going to improve the new Vesta throughout the year”, told team principal Viktor Shapovalov.
New Lada Vesta had very successful tests at Magny-Cours track in France, so the team awaits the start of the season with optimism.
“Drivers appreciated potential of the new cars at Magny-Cours. Vesta is definitely better and faster than last season Granta. That’s why I think we can fight for the podium at couple of races. This is completely Russian product, designed and built in our factory in Togliati“, added Shapovalov.
Interestingly, Lada is the only team in WTCC which bulit completely new car for 2015. Due to the recent rules changes in series, this is the third year in a row that Lada has built new car.
In 2014 Lada scored two victories, in China and Macau.
