Johan Kristoffersson is ready to attack WTCR title in 2019
The current World Rallycross and Scandinavian Touring Car champion Johan Kristoffersson will continue a career in the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for one of Volkswagen Motorsport’s customer teams.
The information still isn’t officially confirmed but the rumours are telling that Kristoffersson’s entry to the WTCR is the only logical step following a withdrawal of PSRX Volkswagen Sweden from the World Rallycross Championship.
A move to the WTCR would be a continuation of Kristoffersson’s longstanding connection with Volkswagen. In 2018, he won his second STCC title driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR and his second World RX title driving a Volkswagen Polo R Supercar.
He spent four full seasons in the World Rallycross Championship, all four driving a VW Polo. In touring car racing, he is driving TCR-class VW Golf since 2017, previously winning the 2012 STCC title in a Volkswagen Scirocco.
Johan Kristoffersson would become the second confirmed Volkswagen Motorsport entry in the 2019 WTCR season after Rob Huff, who will continue to drive a Volkswagen Golf after spending the 2018 WTCR season in that car.
