Some kids would dream of becoming NBA legends. Others would want to take part in a World Cup match or become the next world heavyweight boxing champion. There are also those who want to grow up living life in the fast lane. When your child exhibits an early interest in motorsports, then you might be nurturing the next Michael Schumacher.

As long as they have a strong passion for cars and racing, your child could develop their fascination for motorsports further. It takes a lot of support coming from parents like yourself who are also avid motorsports fans. Here’s a guide to help you raise an avid racer:

1. Take them to a live race

Watching NASCAR races on TV is nowhere near similar to experiencing it in person. The spectacle and the speed and power these vehicles possess can elevate the experience. Kids will feel the raw power of these machines up close. Not only that, but they can also feel the energy generated by the motorsports fans that surround them. In time, experiencing a racing event live can give your child the motivation to become a racer in the future. You know if they’re hooked to motor sports when they start to talk about their favorite drivers and develop a fondness for fast cars.

2. Let them watch you drive and maintain a vehicle

A love for motorsports can’t be developed through exposure to live races alone. The closest your child ever has to a model driver is you. With that being said, let your child observe how you drive responsibly. You can also get your child to help out if you’re changing your vehicle’s oil and fluids and making major repairs to the engine and body. It’s a great way to spend quality time with your child and introduce them to the different parts and their uses. There’s a good chance they will be asking too many questions, but that’s just a good sign that their love for motorsports is growing.

3. Enroll them in a motorsports program

Some parents would prefer to look for kids golf programs in Annapolis, Maryland, or have them spend time at a surfing clinic in San Jose, California. Nowadays, there are special summer programs that cater to your child’s favorite sport. You’ll find programs for go-kart racing and junior motorbike riding. You just need to help them develop real-world skills that will allow them to thrive in their racing career later on. These programs can also help them become safer motorists.

4. Stimulate their senses

Nurturing your child’s love for racing comes with using the right tools. Apart from buying them toy replicas for real-world race cars, consider gifting your child an actual go-kart. That way, you won’t have to go to a go-kart park to try it out. In an empty parking lot and with you nearby, give your child enough space to operate the vehicle. You can also keep them interested in motorsports by letting them play racing games like Gran Turismo or Forza Horizon.
