Holjes RX: Timmy Hansen wins at Swedish round of World RX
Swedish driver Timmy Hansen (Team Peugeot-Hansen) wins Holjes RX, the sixth round of World Rallycross Championship. After three podiums in previous races this was Hansen’s first victory in 2015 World RX season.
In front of his home crowds, Hansen who drove Peugeot 208 WRX, won in exciting final race against Mattias Ekstrom (EKS RX), Andreas Bakkerud (Olsbergs MSE), Toomas Heikkinen (Marklund Motorsport), Reinis Nitiss (Olsbergs MSE) and Petter Solberg (SDRX).
Hansen had a slight advantage bacause he started from pole-position but in the action packed 6-lap race, the winner remained undecided until the very last turn. He crossed the finish line only 0.3 seconds quickest than Ekstrom in Audi S1. It was Ekstrom’s second podium finish in six races. Third was Andreas Bakkerud in Ford Fiesta ST, celebrating his first podium this season.
Heikkinen, Nitiss and Solberg stayed out of the podium category but they collected valuable points for championship. Solberg remains in the lead after six rounds, seven more will be held.
Earlier today, Solberg was the fastest in two qualifying Heats and he was first in the intermediate standings before semi-finals, ahead Hansen, Bakkerud, Ekstrom and Nitiss. All five of them were successful in the semi-finals and went to final session. The sixth finalist was Heikkinen, who almost didn’t succeed to get into the semi-finals, but after Heat 4 he jumped to 12th position.
Manfred Stohl was 13th, first below the line. Other semi-finalists were Johan Kristoffersson, Davy Jeanney, Ole-Christian Veiby, Eric Faren, Timur Timerzyanov and Tommy Rustad.
The winners of the supporting categories at Holjes RX event are Janis Baumanis (Super 1600), Fredrik Salsten (TouringCars) and Thomas Bryntesson (RX Lites). The next world RX event is scheduled for August 7 in Canada.
