GP2: Stoffel Vandoorne tops the practice session in Sochi

After a five-week break, the Sochi Autodrome hosted the GP2 series drivers. Since Stoffel Vandoorne took the lead in the 45-minute long session, he continued improving his times and was the fastest at the end of the session. Norman Nato was in the lead early on with 2:01.802, followed by MP Motorsports’ Nicholas Latifi and Carlin’s Sean Gelael. As the tempo went up, Alex Lynn took the fastest lap of 1:50.585 and Raffaele Marciello was behind him with 1:51.465. Marciello posted the best times in each sector and took over with 1:47.991 with Alex Lynn on second with an improved lap time of 1:48.765. Sirotkin soon went to second, but was immediately topped by Rio Haryanto with 1:48.359, 0.368 less than Marciello.

Around 15 minutes into the session, Stoffel Vandoorne set the pace with a time of 1:46.832. Gasly was on second with 1:47.277. With 27 minutes to go, the Belgian improved his time to 1:46.117. Minutes later Mitch Evans went up to second with 1:46.663. With 24 minutes to go, the session went yellow until Alexander Rossi returned to the track and most cars went to the pits for data collecting. Haryanto went up to second with 1:46.276 and Lynn improved to third. Vandoorne improved his time to 1:45.326, and so did Haryanto with 1:46.099. Arthur Pic took the second with 1:46.025, and ended the session in front of Haryanto, Evans and Lynn in top five.
