Global debut for new Ford GT at Daytona, European debut at Silverstone
Ford announced the schedule of races for all-new Ford GT, revealed at Le Mans in June and prepared for 2016 season. Global debut will follow at Rolex 24 in Daytona in January, while the car will have an European racing at the opening round of the 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship at Silverstone in April.
Chip Ganassi Racing will operate the cars in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC) with 12 events in GTLM class. In FIA World Endurance Championship, two cars will compete in the GTE Pro Class and will compete in all nine rounds. One of the events is 24 Hours of Le Mans, on which the original Ford GT40 achieved four consecutive wins from 1966 to 1969. Ford GT comeback will mark the 50th anniversary of first ever overall victory at Le Mans for an American manufacturer.
“We believe the Ford GT’s advances in aerodynamics, light-weighting and EcoBoost power will make for a compelling race car that can once again compete on a global stage. The same spirit that drove the innovation behind the first Ford GT still drives us as a company today. Let the racing begin!,” said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development and chief technical officer.
