Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup: Victory for Tech 1 Racing and Anthoine Hubert
Anthoine Hubert (Tech 1 Racing) won Race 2 of the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at Circuit Bugatti Le Mans. Hubert started from pole but was surprised at the start by his teammate Simon Gachet. Huberth retook the lead later to take his second win of the season. Simon Gachet crossed the line in second place, but he was penalized because of cutting the chicane and demoted to 3rd, behind Dennis Olsen (Manor MP Motorsport).
Behind the leading duo at the start Ignazio D’Agosto held onto third place ahead of Dennis Olsen and Harrison Scott (AVF), who started sixth and eighth respectively. The retirement of Matevos Isaakyan (JD Motorsport) on Lap 1 brought out the safety car. At the restart the two Frenchmen held their positions, while Dennis Olsen passed Ignazio D’Agosto for third place. Further back, Ben Barnicoat (Fortec Motorsports) snatched sixth place from Jack Aitken (Koiranen GP). On Lap 6 Anthoine Hubert retook the lead at Turn 1.
Ignazio D’Agosto was the first after the podium trio. Fifth placed Harrison Scott lost five places for having gained an advantage in passing the track limits. Ben Barnicoat moved up to fifth ahead of Jack Aitken and the leaders in the general classification Kevin Jörg and Louis Delétraz. Ukyo Sasahara (ART Junior Team) finished ninth ahead of Harrison Scott.
With two races at Jerez in three weeks remaining in the Eurocup, the battle for the title is very intense. Louis Deletraz and Kevin Jörg (both Josef Kaufmann Racing) both have 163 points, but six drivers can still snatch the crown. Jack Aitken has 156 points, Anthoine Hubert follows with 148, Ben Bernicoat is fifth with 134 points and Jake Hughes has 132 points.
