Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup: Defourny and Norris shared the victories at Aragon
Max Defourny (ART Junior Team/R-ace GP) and Lando Norris (Josef Kaufmann Racing) are the winners of first two races of the opening round of the 2016 Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup at Motorland Aragon.
Defourny was the fastest during the qualifying and he secured the pole position for both Saturday’s races. He capitalized his advantage and won the first race with 1.8s gap ahead of Lando Norris. Jehan Daruvala (Josef Kaufmann Racing) scored third place after a close fight against Harrison Scott (AV Formula). Josef Kaufmann Racing had three drivers in the top 5, as Robert Shwartzman finished on fifth place.
Bruno Baptista (Fortec Motorsports), Henrique Chaves (AV Formula), Nikita Troitskiy (Fortec Motorsports), Alexey Korneev (JD Motorsport) and Ferdinand Habsburg (Fortec Motorsports) completed the top 10. Twenty-four drivers started the race, twenty of them crossed the finish line. Hugo de Sadeleer (Tech 1 Racing) and Alessandro Perullo (Technorace) crashed on Lap 3 and they missed the second race because an extensive damage on the cars.
In Race 2 Defourny lost the lead immediately on the start from Norris. After two more laps Defourny dropped to third, behind Dorian Boccolacci (Tech 1 Racing). After thatm, the race was interrupted wiht one short safety car period when Troitskiy and Romanov had a contact and they blocked the track.
After the re-start Defourny lost one more place and dropped out of the podium. Harrison Scott finished third. Jehan Daruvala took the fifth place. There were intense fight for the positions between 6 and 12, with seven drivers finishing inside the gap of two seconds. Will Palmer (R-ace GP) was the most successful and he took P6. Ferdinand Habsburg, Robert Shwartzman, Henrique Chaves and Gabriel Aubry (Tech 1 Racing) completed the top 10.
One more race at the Motorland Aragon is scheduled for tommorow.
