FCE day 1: Duyvers and Grossmann fastest in Valencia
The first racing day of the Ferrari Challenge Europe at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia was marked by the victories of Jacques Duyver and Bjorn Grossmann.
Duyver, the driver of Kessel Racing, won the Coppa Shell race and now has a 22 point lead in the standings ahead of Erich Prinoth (Ineco MP Racing) and 34 in front of his teammate Gautam Singhania who finished second today. Kessel Racing drivers occupied podium as Fons Scheltema finished third.
Trofeo Pirelli race was very exciting. “Babalus” Santoponte was the fastest in qualifying, but then moved to the back of the grid for an irregularity in the rear wing on his 458 EVO. As a result, championship leader Bjorn Grossmann (Octane 126) started in first place and was able to pull away to victory also getting the fastest lap of the race. “Babalus” drove fantastic race finishing second, while the third was Max Blancardi. However, on Sunday “Babalus” needs to beat Grossmann to keep title hope alive until the last weekend in Mugello in November.
