European rally weekend: Victory for Dani Sordo at Rallye Serras de Fafe

Hyundai factory driver Dani Sordo had a successful test ahead of the next WRC round in Mexico, winning the 32nd Rallye Serras de Fafe this weekend at the wheel of the #37 Hyundai i20 R5.

The rally was the opening round of the Portuguese rally championship and it took place in gravel roads around Fafe, the roads that will also host Portuguese WRC round in late May. Sordo was sharing a car with navigator Carlos del Barrio. After fourteen stages and 124 competitive kilometers, Sordo has an advantage of one minute 14 seconds ahead of second-placed Ricardo Teodosio in a Škoda Fabia R5. The third-placed Miguel Barbosa was also driving Škoda Fabia R5.

Another great event that took place this weekend was the 22nd Rally van Haspengouw, the first round of the Belgian rally championship. The 44-year-old Belgian rally veteran Kris Princen opened the season with a victory at the wheel of the #1 Volkswagen Polo GTI R5.

It was the 1-2 victory for Volkswagen because Cedric Cherain finished in the second place in the #5 VW Polo, 17.6 seconds behind Princen. The third driver on a podium was Sebastien Bedoret (Škoda Fabia R5).
