DTM: Wittmann, BMW dominates race 1 in Austria
BMW dominated DTM race 1 at Red Bull Ring after two of their drivers finished first and second while six of them were in Top 10. Marco Wittman controlled the race from the start and scored sixth victory in his DTM career.
The Bavarians occupied front row for the start after Marco Wittmann has been fastest in the qualifying, only 0.019s ahead of Tom Blomqvist. Two Audis, of Adrien Tambay and Edoardo Mortara, started from the second row while best placed Mercedes driver was Paul Di Resta in 8th place.
Timo Glock was the one who started the race well as he quickly jumped to fourth while Martin Tomczyk from ninth moved up to the fifth position. This was relatively quiet race considering that the standings at the top of the grid remained unchanged until the end.
Former champion Wittmann clinched his first win since Zandvoort in 2015, Blomqvist took the second place and Mortara claimed a third podium spot. Timo Glock, Martin Tomczyk and Maxime Martin took the positions four, five and six, Paul Di Resta at seventh was the only Mercedes’ driver in Top 10 while Adrien Tambay, Augusto Farfus and Nico Muller won the remaining points.
