Toomas 'Topi' Heikkinen is a Finnish rallycross driver whose greatest success on the international scene is the second place in the FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014. A year earlier, he was the champion in the US-based Global Rallycross Championship.

National rallycross champion before international career

Born in March 1991 in Joensuu in Eastern Finland, Toomas Heikkinen spent the early years of his career in karting (2003-2007) and single-seaters (2008-2009), switching to rallycross in 2010. He immediately won the Finnish rallycross championship title and then started his international rallycross career.

In 2010, he made a debut in the European Rallycross Championship, participating in selected rounds with Per Eklund Motorsport's Saab 9-3. He raced in Finland, Poland, and the Czech Republic, finishing best in the ninth place in Poland.

Full ERX season in 2011, GRC debut in 2012

In 2011, Heikkinen continued to drive Per Eklund's Saab in Supercar class of the European Rallycross Championship. He participated in all ten championship rounds, scoring podium once, in Sweden, and finishing sixth in the points.

In 2012, Topi's made a debut in the US-based Global Rallycross Championship, participating in four rounds with Olsbergs MSE's Ford Fiesta ST. He scored no wins or podiums.

In 2013, Heikkinen stayed with Olsbergs MSE in the Global Rallycross Championship, participating im all nine rounds and taking the championship title. He won five times and added three more podiums to his account, dominantly beating Tanner Foust and Ken Block on his way to the top.

In Europe, he made a one-off appearance in the Finnish ERX round, driving Olsbergs MSE's Ford Fiesta to the seventh place.

2014 - vice-champion in the inaugural World RX season

In 2014, Heikkinen became a part of the inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship, driving the #57 Volkswagen Polo Supercar for Marklund Motorsport. He scored his maiden World RX win in the sixth round at Belgian Circuit Jules Tacheny in Mettet. Until the end of the season, he was on a podium one more time in Turkey and collected enough points to finish second in the championship points.

In 2015, Topi stayed with Marklund Motorsport in the #57 Volkswagen Polo. He won again in Belgium and scored one more podium (Canada), finishing ninth in the points.

Two seasons with Mattias Ekstrom's team

For the 2016 World RX season, Heikkinen joined Mattias Ekstrom's team EKS RX to drive the #57 Audi S1. He scored no wins, just three podiums, to finish seventh in the championship. Together with Mattias Ekstrom, he gained Teams' championship title.

The fourth World RX season for Topi followed in 2017, again in the #57 Audi S1. He was on a podium just once, finishing third in the penultimate round at Estering. He ended the season seventh in the points.

Slowing down in 2018, a new championship in 2019

Toppi slowed down his racing activities in 2018 because he had no full-time seat in the World Rallycross Championship. He participated in just two rounds with Max Pucher's MJP Racing Team Austria. He also appeared in one round of the ARX Americas Rallycross.

For the 2019 season, Heikkinen continued cooperation with Max Pucher and announced participation in all-new GRC Europe series which Pucher is organizing. In twelve rounds, Heikkinen was the winner three times and finished the season third in the points.
