Marc Basseng is a German race driver who achieved the most in the sports car racing. The peak of his career was the championship title in the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship when he was driving Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 for Münnich Motorsport.

In the same year, Basseng was the overall winner of the 24 hours of Nürburgring, driving an Audi R8 LMS for Audi Sport Team Phoenix. A year earlier, he won Bathurst 12 Hour race with Audi.

Marc Basseng was born on December 12, 1978, in Engelskirchen. After competing in the lower ranks of cart championships, Basseng was given the opportunity to race in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for the UPS Porsche Junior Team in 1998.

In 2003, he raced in German Renault Clio Cup and he won. In 2004, his career started to take off since he was participating in FIA GT3 European Championship, FIA GT Championship, Le Mans Series, American Le Mans Series and ADAC GT Masters. When it comes to famous amateur professional series VLN, he managed to score 25 wins in one season (2004) which was an amazing achievement.

Marc Basseng was FIA GT1 champion

In 2010, Basseng began racing in FIA GT1 World Championship driving Lamborghini race car. His first two seasons in GT1 series were not so successful but in 2012, his third season in the series, he won the championship title driving a Mercedes. In that period he also managed to set the world record for production-type vehicles driving Pagani Zonda R on famous Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit.

2014 - WTCC season with Seat

In 2013, Basseng moved to World Touring Car Championship behind the wheel of Münnich Motorsport's Seat Leon WTCC. His best result was the fourth place in the season-opening round at Monza. Without wins or podiums, he finished 13th in the points.

In 2014, Basseng participated in the Blancpain Sprint series with Phoenix Racing, driving the #5 Audi R8 LMS ultra. He was sharing a car with Alessandro Latif, finishing 18th in the points.

Full season in the 2015 ADAC GT Masters

In 2015, Basseng participated full season in the ADAC GT Masters, driving the #24 Audi R8 LMS for MS Racing. His co-driver was Florian Stoll.  They won one race, at Nurburgring, finishing sixth in the final standings. It was the last full season for Basseng.

Next year, he participated in just four rounds of the ADAC GT Masters with four different teams. His main interest was in endurance races of the VLN Endurance Series or 24H Series, driving an Audi for Land Motorsport. In 2017, he was combining driving duties with Konrad Motorsport's Lamborghini Huracan and Rowe Racing's BMW M6.

Basseng slowed down with racing activities in 2018 and then reactivated himself in the GT4 European Series, driving a KTM X-Bow GT4.
