Blancpain GT Series Misano - practice
The new round of Blancpain GT series is going to be held in Italy, on Misano circuit this weekend. The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is located near Rimini and is a well-known racing track in that part of the world. With its interesting layout, long and fast straights and fast chicanes it will be suited for GT3 cars of Blancpain Sprint Series. Since the race on Sunday is sprint type race, we are up for an hour of high speed chases under the Mediterranean sun.
The championship leaders, Audi R8 LMS Ultra drivers Laurens Vanthoor and Robin Frijns will attack hard in Misano since they are 26 points ahead in overall standings and if they win in Italy they will secure the title. However, there are the Bentley boys, Maxi Buhk and Vincent Abril who will put up a fight and long straights of the Misano are more suited for their Continental GT3s. Interesting thing is an addition of Lamborghini Huracan GT3 to the grid, since Lamborghini only participated in Blancpain Endurance races this season.
The first racing outings were on Friday and 18 drivers were on track for two hour-long practice sessions. Both of the practice sessions were under wet weather so times will certainly be improved for qualifying sessions on Saturday and race on Sunday. Despite the conditions, first practice session was dominated by Audis and Robin Frijns set the best time (1:46.517) with his teammate Stephane Ortelli only a quarter of a second behind. The green Rinaldi Racing Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 was third. Click HERE for full results and stay tuned for more coverage this weekend.
