TCR Europe gathers many proven champions in one competition

Following a merger of the TCR International Series and FIA World Touring Car Championship into the  WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup, the new TCR Europe Series becomes the main regional touring car competition under the TCR rules.

The series will kick off this weekend in France, at Le Castellet’s Circuit Paul Ricard. The event will feature Saturday’s qualifying session and two races, one on Saturday and one on Sunday. The calendar consists of seven race meeting at Europe’s famous race tracks.

TCR Europe Series features seven two-race events

The next host would be Circuit Zandvoort and then Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, Hungaroring, TT Circuit Assen, Autodromo Nazionale Monza and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The five of seven events will be also a part of the TCR BeNeLux series.

A strong field of 26 cars is announced for the season-opening event, representing seven manufacturers (Audi, Cupra, Honda, Hyundai, Peugeot, Volkswagen, Subaru). The competitors from fifteen countries are coming from eight different series and there are several title winners among them, with eleven different TCR trophies in their hands.

Stefano Comini and Jean-Karl Vernay – the fierce rivals will meet again

The biggest names are definitely two TCR International Series champions – Jean-Karl Vernay from 2017 and double champion from 2015 and 2016 Stefano Comini. The biggest driver is definitely a two-meter high Dušan Borković, who has a rich experience from different international touring car competitions. Earlier in a career, he was European Hill Climb champion, same as Macedonian Igor Stefanovski, one of the competitors on the entry list.

The drivers who have TCR titles or some other touring car titles in their records are Josh Files, Kris Richard, Francisco Mora, Francisco Abreu or Nicola Baldan. The young Hungarian Attila Tassi proved that he has champion-winning potential with several international victories in TCR races, leading a bunch of teenagers who will compete in TCR Europe Series.
