Johan Kristoffersson

Johan Kristoffersson is a Swedish racing driver who is definitely one of the most successful racers of modern time because he gained success in every racing discipline he entered, including sports cars, touring cars, rallycross or rallying.

He's a son of former racer Tommy Kristoffersson, an owner of the Kristoffersson Motorsport.

Johan is a champion in all sorts of racing

Johan Kristoffersson had a World RX debut in the inaugural season in 2014, finishing third in the 2015 season and second in the 2016 season. In 2017, he progressed for one place and captured a championship title even before the championship came to an end. He repeated the same in 2018, securing World RX title with unbelievable eleven wins in 12 rounds.

Earlier in a career, before becoming known rallycross competitor, Kristoffersson collected several championship titles in other disciplines. The highlight of his career was the season 2012, when he was a champion in three competitions – Superstars International Series, Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. He triumphed in the Carrera Cup two more times in 2013 and 2015.

In 2018, he added one more regional championship trophy to his collection, winning the STCC TCR Scandinavia in a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR.

Starting a career with father's team

Johan David Kristoffersson was born on December 6, 1988, in Arvika, Sweden. His father Tommy (born 1959) was a famous rallycross and touring car driver. Johan started a racing career in 2008, the last competitive year for his father.

Johan's first competition was the Junior Touring Car Championship, where he was driving Volkswagen Golf for his father's team Kristoffersson Motorsport (KMS). After winning two times in 18 races, he finished fourth in the championship. In 2009, Johan progressed to the Swedish Touring Car Championship, driving an Audi A4 for KMS. In the overall classification, he was out of points, but he finished second in the Semcon Cup for private teams and drivers.

In 2010, Johan skipped most of the season, joining Team Biogas.se in the last three rounds of the Swedish Touring Car Championship to drive Volkswagen Scirocco. He also participated in four races of the Scandinavian Touring Car Cup.

Kristoffersson stayed with the Team Biogas in the 2011 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season, taking part in ten races with Volkswagen Scirocco. After scoring two podiums, he was 10th in the points.

2011 - first success in the Porsche Carrera Cup

In 2011, Kristoffersson debuted in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. His first season with rear-wheel-drive GT cars was successful. He fought for the championship title until the very last race, losing a title to Robin Rudholm. Kristoffersson scored eight wins in the 2011 Carrera Cup season.

He also had guest appearances in the Porsche Carrera World Cup and Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, but without success.

Three championship titles in one season

And then the season 2012 came, in which Kristoffersson achieved unprecedented success, winning championship titles in all three competitions he took part. He was driving an Audi RS5 for Audi Sport KMS in the Italian-based Superstars Series, winning four races in the International competition to take championship title ahead Vitantonio Liuzzi. He was also the best in the Italian Superstars classification and the best rookie of the season.

In Scandinavia, Johan conquered Carrera Cup with eight wins in ten races. In the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, five wins in a Volkswagen Scirocco was enough to become a champion ahead of two Chevrolet drivers Rickard Rydell and Michel Nykjaer.

One more Carrera Cup title in 2013

In 2013, Kristoffersson managed to improve his results in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, winning twelve out of fourteen races to dominantly take his second championship title.

Of other competitions, Kristoffersson competed with Audi in the Italian GT Championship, with Audi and Porsche in the Superstars GT Sprint and participated at Bathurst 12 Hour race with Phoenix Racing's Audi R8 LMS, finishing in the fourth place.

First rallycross experience in 2013

In 2013, Johan recorded his first experience in a rallycross, following footsteps of his father who has been accomplished rallycross and touring car racer at the same time.

In July 2013, Johan participated in the Swedish round of the European Rallycross Championship, driving a family-run Volkswagen Scirocco. He finished in the 10th place.

Focusing on rallycross in 2014

In 2014, Kristoffersson focused on rallycross. Volkswagen Dealer Team KMS participated part-time both in the European Rallycross Championship and the inaugural World Rallycross Championship, using a Volkswagen Polo Supercar in both competitions.

He was on a podium in the German ERX round and won the race in Italy. In the World Championship, his best result was fifth place in Italy. In the Swedish rallycross championship, Johan finished third.

Maiden World RX victory in Portugal

For the 2015 World Rallycross Championship, Kristofersson Motorsport received a support from Volkswagen Sweden to competed under its name. In the opening round, at Montalegre, Johan scored a sensational victory.

Later in the season, he was on a podium four more times (UK, Spain, Turkey and Italy) to finish third in the final standings, behind Petter Solberg and Timmy Hansen.

Thirteen wins in thirteen races for Carrera Cup title

While driving for Volkswagen in the World Rallycross Championship, Johan returned to a cockpit of the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia. He demolished an opposition to win his third championship title in a series. In thirteen races over a season, he won thirteen times. He was on a pole six times and set fastest laps in eight races.

World RX vice-champion in 2016

For the 2016 World Rallycross Championship, the KMS and Marklund Motorsport, two Swedish teams which run Volkswagens, merged into Volkswagen RX Sweden. Johan Kristoffersson and Anton Marklund were drivers of VW Polo Supercars.

Johan reached his first podium in the seventh round at Canadian Trois-Rivieres Circuit, where he was third. The only win of the season came in the next round at French Circuit de Loheac. One more podium followed in season's finale in Argentina, to finish a championship as a runner-up behind Mattias Ekström.

Return to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship in 2016

Besides rallycross, Kristoffersson wanted a double program, so he returned to the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship in 2016, driving a Seat Leon for PWR Racing Team. He was the race winner two times, finishing third in the final standings behind two Volvo drivers Richard Göransson and Robert Dahlgren.

For the 2017 season, STCC switched to the TCR rules. Johan moved to Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, driving for Kristoffersson Motorsport.

In the World Rallycross Championship, one more merger followed ahead of the 2017 season. Volkswagen RX Sweden and Petter Solberg's private team created PSRX Volkswagen Sweden to field two Volkswagen Polo Supercars.

After reigning world champion Mattias Ekstrom triumphed in first three events, PSRX Volkswagen Sweden started its winning streak. Kristoffersson scored six wins to secure a championship title after round 10 (of 12).

Breaking all the records in 2018

In the 2018 World RX season, Johan Kristoffersson was an absolutely dominant in his #1 Volkswagen Polo Supercar. He won the first two rounds in Spain and Portugal and then finished fifth in Belgium. It turned to be his only race without a victory.

Until the end of the season, he won nine consecutive championship rounds, winning a title with a total of eleven victories in twelve rounds. He and Petter Solberg also took the Teams' title for PSRX Volkswagen Sweden.

To make his extraordinary year even better, Johan also won the championship title in the STCC TCR Scandinavia, driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for a family team.

More and more rallying since 2015

Johan Kristoffersson proved himself as not just ordinary but an extremely successful versatile driver, scoring wins in very different racing competitions. In 2015, he decided to try rallying. His first rally event was Numedalsrally in Norway, where he finished in the fifth place with KMS-prepared Škoda Fabia S2000.

In 2016, Kristoffersson expanded his rally activities to six events, including WRC round in Sweden. In his WRC debut, driving a Škoda Fabia S2000, Johan finished 21st overall and 11th in the RC2 class. He came again to Rally Sweden in 2018, finishing 17th in a Škoda Fabia R5.

Combining rallying and touring car racing in 2019

In 2019, after leaving World Rallycross Championship, Kristoffersson switches his focus on two different disciplines - rallying and world touring car racing. He competed with Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 in the Swedish Rally Championship and selected rounds of the World Rally Championship.

On the other side, he was driving a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for Sebastien Loeb Racing in the WTCR - FIA World Touring Car Cup. During the season, he was a race winner three times, at Nurburgring Nordschleife, Suzuka Circuit and Sepang Circuit, finishing fifth in the points, the best of all Volkswagen drivers.
