Tekno Autosports McLaren 650S is the winner of Bathurst 12 Hour
The #59 Tekno Autosports McLaren 650S GT3 has taken victory in a exciting 2016 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour race. After 297 laps and record 29 lead changes, Shane van Gisbergen crossed the finish line just 1.27s ahead Katsumasa Chiyo in the last years’s winning Nismo Athlete Global Team Nissan GT-R.

Van Gisbergen’s co-drivers were Alvaro Parente and Jonathon Webb, while Chiyo was sharing the cockpit with Rick Kelly and Florian Strauss. The podium was completed with Steven Kane, Guy Smith and Matt Bell, drivers of #10 Bentley Continental GT3.

McLaren’s record lap for the pole
In the qualifying sesson for the race Van Gisbergen drove an incredible lap of 2m01.286s and seat a record time at famous Mount Panorama Circuit. McLaren started from pole, but during the race lead were changed for 29 times, with eight different cars on the top spot. The final change for the lead came with just 50 minutes remaining on the clock, with van Gisbergen taking over the lead from Nissan’s Katsumasa Chiyo on lap 273 when the Nissan completed its last stop for the day.

Five different manufacturers finished the race in Top 5, as Phoenix Racing’s Audi R8 was fourth and Erebus Motorsport’s Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was fifth. Class winners of the race were #4 Grove Racing Porsche 997 GT3 (Class B), #5 GT Motorsport Audi R8 LMS (Class A – GT3 AM) and #93 MARC Cars Australia Ford Focus V8 (Class I). 36 crews started the race, only 21 crossed the finish line 12 hours later.
