V8 Supercars Castrol Gold Coast 600 - Race

It was another interesting and dynamic V8 Supercars event, this time on 2.96 kilometers long Gold Coast circuit at Surfers Paradise, Australia. After last week’s famous and very intense Bathurst 1000, the Gold Coast 600 proved to be less dangerous, but still a very interesting race with a surprising outcome.

After two months of recovery from helicopter injury, James Courtney won Gold Coast 600 with his co-driver Jack Perkins and returned in full force to the championship. He  won in spectacular style with a clean drive and smart strategy from the Holden Racing Team in race where fuel stops and good pace determined the winner. The win is Courtney’s first on the Gold Coast and Perkins’ first in V8 Supercars. The Nissan Motorsport driver Rick Kelly (with David Russel as co-driver) were second, which was a surprise even for Nissan. The V8 Supercars Altima proved that it is fast with few best times during practice sessions this season but this is the first podium finish in non sprint race. Courtney’s teammate Garth Tander was third and last year’s champion and V8 Supercars legend, Jamie Whincup was 7th.

The championship leader and Pepsi Max Team driver, Mark Winterbottom finished 11th but this didn’t have much effect on his championship standings and he is still in the lead by almost 300 points to Craig Lowndes on second place. For full results, click HERE!
