24h Nürburgring: BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS on pole

Brazilian DTM driver Augusto Farfus (BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS) set the fastest lap at Nürburgring Nordschleife Circuit today afternoon and earned pole position for his team tommorow at the start of 43rd ADAC Zürich 24 Hours of Nürburgring race.

Farfus is first Brazilian on pole position in famous race. With No.26 BMW Z4 GT3 of Belgian team Farfus lapped the track in 8.17.394 and was the only driver with lap time under 8.18 minutes.

Final qualifying session of 30 cars lasted 40 minutes and every team can tried two laps around 25,3 km long track. Farfus set the time 8.17.531 in first lap, in front of two BMW cars of BMW Sport Trophy Team Schubert.

In second lap Farfus improved his time, other BMW cars was slower and second place was taken by No.2 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of Black Falcon. British driver Adam Christodoulou was 0.947 seconds slower than Farfus.

Two cars of BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert will start the race at P3 and P4. Drivers in last qualifying session was Jens Klingmann in No.20 BMW Z4 GT3 and Dirk Müller in No.19 BMW. In Top 10 on the starting grid there will be fourth BMW – No.25 of Team Marc VDS with Maxime Martin qualified at sixth position.

Two Audi teams with four cars also made it into the Top 10 after a very hard and fought qualifying session. Audi Sport Team WRT drivers Nicki Thiim, Christer Joens, Pierre Kaffer and Laurens Vanthoor were the fastest within the Audi squad. Kaffer qualified in a strong fifth place overall with their No.29 Audi R8 LMS.  The second entry from Audi Sport Team WRT was seventh fastest, No.28 R8 was driven by Nico Mueller.

Last year winners Markus Winkelhock, Christopher Haase, Christian Mamerow and René Rast were the ninth fastest. The Audi Sport Team Phoenix drivers where behind the wheel of the No.1 Audi R8 LMS. Their team-mates in Audi No.4 will start in position 10.

Only non-German manufacturer in Top 10 are Bentley. Lance David Arnold qualified at P8 with No.84 Continental GT3. Aston Martin Racing will have car No.007 on starting position 12, behind SLS AMG GT3 of Rowe Racing.

Race will start tommorow at 16.00 and runs until 16.00 on Sunday.
