World RX: Wild card entrant Sebastian Eriksson triumphed at Höljes

Sebastian Eriksson has won the World RX event at Höljesbanan in Sweden, the sixth round of the 2019 FIA World Rallycross Championship, in his return to the World Rallycross Championship after two years. The 26-year-old Swedish driver was driving the #93 Ford Fiesta Mk8 for Olsbergs MSE, appearing at the World RX grid for the first time since the Swedish round in 2017.

In a dramatic Final race, Eriksson defeated his compatriot Kevin Hansen in the #71 Peugeot 208 of Team Hansen MJP. Latvian driver Reinis Nitiss climbed to the third podium spot after his second appearance this year with GRX Team’s Hyundai i20. The other three finalists were Niclas Gronholm (GRX Hyundai), Kevin Abbring (ES Motorsport-Labas GAS, Škoda Fabia) and Timmy Hansen (Peugeot 208).

Twenty-five Supercar drivers participated in the Swedish round of the championship. Andreas Bakkerud (Monster Energy RX Cartel, Audi S1) was first in the Intermediate classification after four qualifying heats, but a driveshaft issue put him out of Semi Final 2.

He is still third in the championship standings with 109 points on his account, sixteen less than Timmy Hansen. Kevin Hansen is the new championship leader with 131 points, six more than his brother.
