World RX of Barcelona - Catalunya: Clean sweep for Timmy Hansen
After his misfortunate ending of the season-opening round at Abu Dhabi three weeks ago, Swedish rallycross star Timmy Hansen (Team Hansen MJP) absolutely dominated this weekend in the second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, winning all six races from Qualifying to the Finals and taking his sixth victory in the World RX career.
Timmy Hansen was the fastest driver in all four qualifying heats in the #21 Peugeot 208 WRX Supercar, then added a victory in the Semi Final and finally finished the job with a victory in the Final race.
He was joined on a podium by his younger brother and teammate Kevin Hansen and Norwegian ace Andreas Bakkerud, who was driving the #13 Audi S1 for Monster Energy RX Cartel team. Niclas Gronholm (GRX Taneco Team, Hyundai i20) missed the podium with a fourth-place finish. The other two finalists were Cyril Raymond (GCK Academy, Renault Clio) and Janis Baumanis (Team STARD, Ford Fiesta).
Nineteen drivers of World RX Supercars participated in the Spanish championship round. The event was also the opening round for the RX2 Championship, with another Swedish driver Oliver Eriksson taking the victory. Barcelona also hosted the first round of the European Rallycross Championship for S1600 class cars. The Russian Aydar Nuriev took the victory in an Audi A1.
