W Series: Visser wins at Zolder, Chadwick and Powell again on a podium
The second round of the all-female W Series single-seater championship took place at Circuit Zolder today. The winner of the race was the 24-year-old Dutch driver Beitske Visser.
Jamie Chadwick, who won the season-opening race at Hockenheim two weeks ago, was the fastest qualifier but this time, she didn’t manage to convert pole position into victory. Chadwick finished in the second place at Zolder after a fierce fight against Alice Powell.
Nineteen drivers appeared on the grid, one more than in the inaugural race, with reserve drivers Sarah Bovy and Vivien Keszthelyi having their competitive debut in the series. Unfortunately, both drivers prematurely ended their respective appearances. Bovy didn’t even start the race due to some technical failure on her car while Keszthelyi ended a race after early crash together with Gosia Rdest and Esmee Hawkey.
After a brief Safety car period, Visser defended his lead at the restart and stayed in front until the end. After 19 laps, she crossed the finish line 8.451 seconds ahead of Chadwick, who was just 0.633 sec faster than Powell. Other point scorers are Marta Garcia, Sarah Moore, Tasmin Pepper, Fabienne Wohlwend, Miki Koyama, Vicky Piria and Naomi Schiff.
The third round is scheduled for June 8 at Misano.
