W Series at Norisring: Maiden victory for Marta Garcia
The 18-year-old Spanish racer Marta Garcia scored her maiden victory in the fourth round of the all-female W Series at Norisring in Nuremberg, Germany. Garcia is the third different winner this season, taking the third place in the championship standings behind two girls who were sharing a podium at Norisring with her.
Beitske Visser finished second in the race and she’s also second in the championship. Jamie Chadwick was third at Norisring, what was her fourth podium in four races which secures her the lead in the championship. After four races, Chadwick has 83 points, ten more than Visser and 23 more than Garcia.
Garcia started the race from pole at the iconic 2.3km circuit and managed to convert it into his maiden win not only in the W Series but also in her single-seater racing career. She previously competed in the Spanish F4 Championship.
Garcia crossed the finish line with a 3.619sec advantage over Beitske Visser, who started from P5 and finished as a runner-up for the second race in a row. Visser climbed from P5 to P2 at the start, before Turn 1, forcing championship leader Jamie Chadwick into third place. The first three positions remained unchanged until the end of the race.
Fabienne Wohlwend finished the race in the fourth place, in front of Emma Kimilainen, who made a great comeback after being forced to miss the past two races due to injury. Jessica Hawkins was holding P6 almost until the end but a terminal power loss forced her to retire, handing the sixth place to Miki Koyama. The other point scorers are Sabre Cook, Tasmin Pepper, Esmee Hawkey and Naomi Schiff.
The fifth round of the W Series is scheduled for July 20-21 at TT Circuit Assen. All the competitors will have a double weekend programme there because another non-championship race will be organized at the same circuit, with the reversed grid.
