W Series: Jamie Chadwick wins at Misano, confirms championship lead
Jamie Chadwick confirmed her domination in the all-female W Series by climbing to the podium for the third time in as many races and scoring his second win of the season today at Misano World Circuit.
The 21-year-old girl from Bath, UK, took the lead immediately at the start and stayed in front for twenty laps, defeating Beitske Visser from the Netherlands and Fabienne Wohlwend from Liechtenstein.
Wohlwend started from pole position but he found herself under pressure from Alice Powell (GBR) at Turn 1 on the opening lap. The two cars touched and Alice Powell was forced to retire after her car went into the gravel trap. The stewards judged to be a racing incident and nobody gets a penalty.
The Safety car was deployed and, at the restart, Wohlwend continued the race behind Chadwick and Visser. That order remained unchanged until the end. The young Japanese Miki Koyama took the P4 in a fight against the Italian driver Vicky Piria.
Marta Garcia (Spain), Tasmin Pepper (South Africa), Sabre Cook (USA), Sarah Moore (GBR) and Vivien Keszthelyi (Hungary) completed the top 10. Keszthelyi was one of two reserve drivers who had started the race, the other being Sarah Bovy (Belgium), who finished 12th.
After three races, Jamie Chadwick leads the championship with 68 points on her account, thirteen more than Beitske Visser. Marta Garcia is third, further twenty points behind Visser and just two points ahead of Alice Powell. The next W Series round is set to take place at Norisring on July 6, again as a support programme to DTM weekend.
