Jamie Chadwick wins the inaugural race of all-female W Series
The brand new all-female W Series single-seater championship kicked-off at Hockenheimring, as a part of supporting programme during the DTM weekend.
Jamie Chadwick proved that she is reasonably considered as a favorite, setting the fastest times at practice, then taking pole position with the fastest lap in the qualifying session, and finally winning the 3o-minute race at German circuit. The 20-year-old British driver, who already has several championship trophies, made a perfect start to the season that features six races on the European circuit.
Her performance showed that it would be hard to stop her on a way to the championship title. It seems that she could be stopped only if she did some mistakes like she did on Turn 6 hairpin the opening lap at Hockenheimring when she went wide and handed the lead to Sarah Moore. Then Safety Car intervention followed because Megan Gilkes crashed into Emma Kimiliainen on the same corner.
At the restart, Chadwick easily took the lead back and stayed in front until the end, also setting the fastest lap of the race. Behind her back, we saw many interesting fights. In the end, Alice Powell finished the race in the second place, bringing another British flag on the podium. The 18-year-old Marta Garcia from Spain completed the podium. Eighteen drivers participated in the race, sixteen of them reached the finish line.
