Kevin Hansen, Topi Heikkinen shared Titans RX victories at Lydden Hill
The second round of the inaugural season of the Titans RX rallycross championship took place at Lydden Hill, UK, the birthplace of rallycross. As every round consists of two separate competition days, we have two winners – Toomas ‘Topi’ Heikkinen on Saturday and Kevin Hansen on Sunday.
After two rounds and four races, Kevin Hansen leads the championship standings with just one point more (89:88) than Topi Heikkinen.
On Saturday’ Topi Heikkinen claimed his second win of the 2019 Titans RX season, following a victory in the season-opening round in Essay, France. In the Final race, that took place in torrential conditions, he defeated Timmy Hansen and Kevin Hansen.
The wildcard driver Oliver Webb finished fourth, ahead of fellow wildcard driver Dan Rooke and Tamara Molinaro. After dominating qualifying, Nelson Piquet Jr was forced to miss the final after crashing out of the lead during his semi-final race.
On Sunday, Hansen brothers climbed to the podium again. Kevin won the Final race in front of Timmy while Andrew Jordan finished the race in the third place, stealing the podium spot from Topo Heikkinen in the final moments of the race. The other two finalists were Ronny C’Rock and Tamara Molinaro.
Among the drivers that missed out on the final, Dan Rooke and Oliver Webb suffered mechanical issues in their semi-final, where both looked set to qualify. The ‘Original Stig’ Perry McCarthy was in a position to capitalise on his fellow debutantes misfortune until a power steering failure left him struggling for pace.
The third TitansRX event is scheduled for August 10-11 at Montalegre, Portugal.
