NASCAR: Chase Elliott leads Hendrick's 1-2 at Talladega
Chase Elliott (Hendrick Motorsport) wins GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, scoring his fourth NASCAR Cup Series victory in a career. The 23-year-old driver of the #9 Chevrolet Camaro crossed the finish line ahead of Alex Bowman in the #88 Chevrolet, making it the double victory for Hendrick Motorsports.
For Bowman, it’s the career-best finish in the Cup Series. Rookie of the Year contender Ryan Preece (JTG Daugherty Racing) finished the race third in the #47 Chevrolet, also scoring his best ever result in NASCAR’s major division.
Reigning champion Joey Logano (Team Penske) was fourth, in front of rookie Daniel Hemric (Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet), Kurt Busch (Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet), Ryan Newman (Roush Fenway Racing Ford), Brendan Gaughan (Beard Motorsports Chevrolet) and Aric Almirola (Stewart-Haas Racing Ford). Kyle Busch (Joe Gibbs Racing) was tenth as the best Toyota driver.
During the last lap, a big crash occurred in which Kyle Larson’s Chevrolet get airborne and rolled. The caution was called but Chase Elliot was already half-lap from the finish line. In the 188-lap race, he was in the lead for 45 laps, the most of all drivers.
The next race on the calendar is the Gander RV 400 at Dover International Speedway on May 5.
