International GT Open: Double celebration for Emil Frey Racing
The new season of the International GT Open started at Circuit Paul Ricard. Twenty-three crews in GT3 cars appeared in the season-opening round and the Swiss team Emil Frey Racing took the victories in both races with two different Lamborghini Huracans.
Albert Costa and Giacomo Altoe triumphed in the first race and then Norbert Siedler and Mikael Grenier celebrated a victory in the second race.
Teo Martin Motorsport’s Allam Khodair started the first race from pole in the #16 McLaren 720S GT3 but another two Teo Martin’s crews ended the race on the podium – Martin Kodrić/Henrique Chaves (#59 McLaren) were second and Fran Rueda/Andrea Saravia (#17 McLaren) were third.
The best in the ProAm class were Tom Onslow-Cole and Valentin Pierburg, who finished fifth overall in the #20 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of SPS Automotive Performance. The best in the Am class were Martin Konrad and Alexander Hrachowina in HTP Motorsport’s Mercedes.
Tom Onslow-Cole started from pole in the second race but finished just 16th. Emil Frey Racing’s #14 Lamborghini took the victory ahead of two Mercedes crews. Daniel Zampieri and Alessio Rovera were second in the #6 Mercedes of Antonelli Motorsport while Miguel Ramos and Fabrizio Crestani finished third in the #10 SPS Mercedes. Two Mercedes crews initially finished in reversed order but a post-race penalty for the #10 SPS changed their positions.
The best ProAm combination in the second race was Raffaele Giammaria and Jiatong Liang in Raton Racing’s Lamborghini. Konrad and Hrachowina were the best Am drivers again.
The next International GT Open event is scheduled for May 25-26 at Hockenheimring.
