Tricky Triangle takes victims again, Will Power wins for the third time
Will Power (Team Penske) is the winner of the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway, the 14th round of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series. The race has been stopped after 128 of predicted 200 laps due to lightning and storm.
For the 38-year-old Australian, it’s his first wn this year, third victory at the 2.5-mile track in Long Pond, Pennsylvania, and 34th IndyCar victory in a career.
Power was joined on the podium by Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Simon Pagenaud (Team Penske). Santino Ferrucci (Dale Coyne Racing) scored the career-best fourth-place finish. Championship leader Josef Newgarden (Team Penske) rounded the top 5.
The massive accident on lap 1, involving five cars, interrupted the race, proving once more why Pocono Raceway is called The Tricky Triangle. Takuma Sato, Felix Rosenqvist, James Hinchcliffe, Alexander Rossi and Ryan Hunter-Reay were involved.
Josef Newgarden extended his championship lead over Alexander Rossi (Andretti Autosport), who finished 18th after getting caught up in an opening-lap incident and restarting again. Newgarden has 535 points, Rossi is on 500 points. Pagenaud is close to Rossi with 495 points, Dixon is fourth at 483 points.
The next race would be the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on Saturday, August 24.
