Formula Renault Eurocup: Double celebration for Piastri at Silverstone
Oscar Piastri (R-Ace GP) is a double winner in the second round of the Formula Renault Eurocup season at Silverstone. The 18-year-old Australian also took the lead in the drivers’ classification after four races.
In the first race, which he started from pole position, Oscar Piastri has won ahead of rookies Joao Vieira (JD Motorsport) and Petr Ptaček (Bhaitech Racing). It wasn’t an easy win because Piastri lost a lead at the start to Alexander Smolyar (R-ace GP). Unfortunately for the Russian driver, he was forced to retire with a broken tie rod stud on lap nine. Piastri inherited a lead and became the third winner this season in as many races.
The day after, Piastri started from pole again and became the first repeat winner with the new Formula Renault FR-19, giving the third win in four races to his team. His teammate Alexander Smolyar finished the race in the second place, ahead of Victor Martins (MP Motorsport).
After four races, Oscar Piastri has 62 points on his account. Victor Martins follows with 46 points, three more than Alexander Smolyar and Ugo de Wilde.
The third round of the Formula Renault Eurocup season will take place in Monaco in support of the F1 Monaco Grand Prix (May 23-26).
