Singapore Grand Prix: Vettel returns to the top podium spot
Sebastian Vettel (Scuderia Ferrari) finally scored his first victory in 2019, winning the Singapore Grand Prix for the fifth time and recording his 53rd F1 victory in a career. Vettel defeated his teammate and poleman Charles Leclerc, scoring the third win in a row for Ferrari and the first 1-2 triumph for the Italian squad.
Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) completed the podium, beating two Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas.
The other point scorers at Singapore’s Marina Bay Street Circuit are Alex Albon (Red Bull), Lando Norris (McLaren), Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso), Nico Hulkenberg (Renault) and Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo).
Sebastian Vettel’s victory more than one year after his last triumph, exactly 392 days after his victory at 2018 Belgian Grand Prix. The decisive move was Vettel’early pitstop which put him ahead of his teammate and main rival Charles Leclerc.
The race was interrupted three times by Safety Car periods when George Russell and Kimi Raikkonen crashed, and Sergio Perez stopped on track, helping Vettel to manage his tyres to the finish line.
