Formula One: Vettel's penalty gives Hamilton seventh win in Canada
Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) wins the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, scoring his fifth win this season and 78th F1 victory in a career. With this victory, Hamilton equals Michael Schumacher as the record holder with seven wins in Canada.
Hamilton crossed the finish line behind Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) but the German in the #5 Ferrari received the 5sec penalty because of an incident involving him and Hamilton. That penalty demoted him to the second place.
On Lap 48, under pressure from Hamilton, Vettel ran across the grass at the Turn 3-4 chicane, and then he squeezed Hamilton when re-joined the track. He said that he had nowhere to go but the stewards gave him the five-second race time penalty.
Controversially or not, Mercedes continued its domination with seven wins in seven races. This time, two Ferrari drivers were on a podium because Charles Leclerc finished third, what was his second podium of the season.
Valtteri Bottas finished fourth, 51 seconds behind his teammate, earning also an extra points because of the fastest lap. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was fifth and the last in the leading lap. The other point scorers are Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), Nico Hulkenberg (Renault), Pierre Gasly (Red Bull), Lance Stroll (Racing Points) and Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso).
