Shwartzman wins at Monza to come very close to F3 Championship title
Robert Shwartzman (Prema Racing) and Yuki Tsunoda (Jenzer Motorsport) are the winners of two FIA Formula 3 Championship races at Monza, in the seventh round and the penultimate of the season.
The Russian youngster Robert Shwartzman scored his third win of the season in Saturday’s Feature Race and then added one more point to his account in Sunday’s Sprint Race, entering the season’s finale at Sochi (September 28-29) as the championship leader with the 33-point gap ahead of closest rival Jehan Daruvala (Prema Racing).
Daruvala finished second in the Feature Race but scored no points in the shorter race the day later. The third man on the podium on Saturday was Yuki Tsunoda who then had a fantastic race on Sunday to score his maiden F3 victory. He shared a podium with Liam Lawson (MP Motorsport) and Jake Hughes (HWA Racelab).
The F3 weekend at Monza would be also remembered by a horrific crash of Alex Peroni in the first race. He took a flight over the sausage curb and landed into the fence and near marshal’s position. Peroni left a car on his own but he was taken to the hospital for the usual medical checks. On Sunday, he missed the race because he was declared unfit for safety measure.
