Mick Schumacher scores his maiden Formula 2 victory at Hungaroring
Nicholas Latifi (DAMS) and Mick Schumacher (Prema Racing) are the winners of two FIA Formula 2 Championship races at Hungaroring. For Latifi, it was his fourth win of the season, returning to the top podium spot almost three months after his previous win in the third round at Barcelona. For Mick Schumacher, the triumph in Sunday’s Sprint race is his first Formula 2 victory in a career.
On Saturday, championship leader Nyck de Vries started the Feature race from pole position but his main championship rival Nicholas Latifi took the victory, his fourth this season. DeVries ended the race in the second place. It was the first time this season that the Championships’ top two have shared a podium. Jack Aitken (Campos Racing) was the third man on a podium.
The other points scorers were Luca Ghiotto, Sergio Sette Camara, Jordan King, Nobuharu Matsushita, Mick Schumacher, Guan Zhou and Callum Ilott.
Mick Schumacher started on reverse pole in the Sprint Race and converted it into his maiden F2 victory in his rookie season. Schumacher shared a podium with Nobuharu Matsushita (Carlin) and Sergio Sette Camara (DAMS).
Jordan King and Jack Aitken completed the top 5. Nyck de Vries (sixth) and NichLatifi (seventh) also scored some points, staying on the top of the championship standings. De Vries has 196 points, Latifi is thirty points down.
