DTM at Brands Hatch: Victories for Marco Wittmann, Rene Rast

Marco Wittmann (BMW) and Rene Rast (Audi) are the winners of two DTM races at Brands Hatch, in the sixth round of the season. Both for Wittmann and Rast that were victories number 4 this season.

After six rounds and twelve races, Rast stayed in the championship lead. He has 206 points, ahead of Nico Müller with 169 points. The third-placed Marco Wittmann has scored 147 points.

Race 1 podium at Brands Hatch

On Saturday, Marco Wittmann took his 15th DTM victory in a career after starting from pole in the #11 BMW M4. he shared a podium with Audi drivers Rene Rast and Nico Müller. Audi had four drivers in the top 5 because Robin Frijns and Loic Duval finished fourth and fifth respectively.

The best Aston Martin driver was Dani Juncadella in the tenth place. His teammate Paul di Resta virtually made a perfect start from fourth on the grid and led the race but race control awarded him a five-second pit-stop penalty after judging that he has jumped the start.

Three Audi drivers on Sunday’s podium

On Sunday, Rene Rast took a huge step towards the 2019 DTM title after dominating the second race at Brands Hatch. He started from pole in the #33 Audi RS5 and converted it into his 14th DTM victory in a career. He controlled the race and crossed the finish line ahead of the closest championship rival Nico Müller. Robin Frijns completed the podium.

Saturday’s winner Marco Wittmann struggled after the disappointing qualifying session. He made a strategic gamble on a two-stop strategy in the race, but could only finish 10th. With Daniel Juncadella and Jake Dennis in eighth and ninth places respectively, R-Motorsport/Aston Martin earned a double point-score in its home round on British soil.

The next DTM round is scheduled for August 24-25 at Lausitz.
