BTCC: Ingram's double, Team HARD's maiden win at Silverstone
The ninth and the penultimate round of the 2019 British Touring Car Championship season took place at Silverstone. The race winners are Tom Ingram (twice) and Jack Goff.
Team Toyota’s Tom Ingram scored his victories number three and four this year while Jack Goff triumphed for the first time this year and gave the maiden BTCC victory to Team HARD.
After nine rounds and twenty-seven races, Colin Turkington (Team BMW) is still the championship leader, going to season’s finale at Brands Hatch (October 12-13) with sixteen points more (297:281) on his account than second-placed Dan Cammish (Halfords Yuasa Racing). Andrew Jordan (BMW Pirtek Racing) is just one point behind Cammish. BTC Racing’s Josh Cook is 34 points under Turkington and still has mathematical chance to win the championship.
Touring car veteran Jason Plato was the fastest qualifier in the #11 Vauxhall Astra at Silverstone’s 1.67-mile National Circuit and secured his first pole position of the season for the opening race of Silverstone weekend. However, he lost a battle against Tom Ingram in the #80 Toyota Corolla, who scored his third win this year.
Chris Smiley (BTC Racing) completed the podium, taking the third place in the #22 Honda Civic Type R in front of his teammate Josh Cook in the #66 Honda. The championship contenders were far behind with Andrew Jordan finishing 10th, Dan Cammish 11th and Colin Turkington 14th.
Tom Ingram repeated a triumph and scored his 13th BTCC victory in a career in the rain-affected and shortened Race 2. Mid-race rain surprised the field that was running on slick Dunlop tyres. When Adam Morgan spun into the gravel the Safety Car was deployed. After the restart, the conditions were even worse so the Race Director showed the red flag.
Ingram shared the podium with Colin Turkington and Dan Cammish, whilst Jason Plato and Josh Cook completed the top 5. Andrew Jordan was eighth.
The Race 3 also took place in wet conditions and Jack Goff took advantage of the early change to wet tyres. He brought the #31 Volkswagen CC to the finish line 7.300 seconds ahead of Aiden Moffat in the #16 Infiniti Q50. Halfords Yuasa Racing’s Matt Neal completed the podium.
Among title contenders, Colin Turkington was the best in the seventh place, one place ahead of Andrew Jordan and five places in front of Dan Cammish.
