British GT: Double triumph for Aston Martins at Spa-Francorchamps
Optimum Motorsport’s Bradley Ellis and Oliver Wilkinson are the winners of the British GT Championship race at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps, the only championship race outside the UK. It’s the maiden victory for a duo in the #96 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT3.
Aston Martin celebrated a double victory at Spa because TF Sport’s Ash Hand and Tom Canning triumphed in the GT4 class in the #97 Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4.
A duo in the #96 Aston Martin started the 2-hour race from pole position and converted it into their first victory in the premium class of British GT racing.
RAM Racing’s Callum Macleod and Ian Loggie finished second, ten seconds behind the winners, in the #6 Mercedes-AMG GT3. Team Parker Racing’s Ryan Ratcliffe and Glynn Geddie completed the overall podium, finishing third in the #7 Bentley Continental GT3.
In the GT4 class, Ash Hand and Tom Canning also scored their first win. The heartbreaking last lap retirement for Josh Smith and James Dorlin in the #4 McLaren 570S GT4 promoted their Tolman Motorsport team-mates Lewis Proctor and Jordan Collard to second place in the #5 McLaren. TF Sport’s #95 Aston Martin of Patrick Kibble and Josh Price finished the race in the third place of GT4 class.
The championship will resume on August 3-4 at Brands Hatch.
